Wikimedia Picture of the Year

The photos that have been nominated for the third annual Picture of the Year competition were posted recently by <ahref="http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page" title="Wikimedia Commons">Wikimedia Commons, which is a database of freely usable media files. Among these great photos was the following photo of Peyto Lake in Banff National Park which was shot by a tourist from Germany enjoying this fantastic park. Check out all of the photos and vote for your favourite until February 26, 2009.

Johnston Canyon Ice Climbing

Last weekend I went out to Johnston Canyon. I was surprised that the river was flowing and the lower falls were not frozen. With the water running behind the ice it made for interesting photos and the thunder of the falls was absent.

The Upper Falls did not disappoint. There were ice climbers (beginners) on the side of the canyon and a couple on the upper falls.
