Trail Conditions

The trail was in great shape today. Some icy spots but overall great conditions. Hardly any snow all the way to the top. Great view of some recent clear cutting across the valley :(

Anyone know what the conditions of these 2 trails are right now. I'd like to head out and do a hike but not if theres 4 feet of snow covering the trail.

After the wind storms from a few weeks ago I was surprised to see that the trail has been cleared. The bottom sections have icy patches and the trail is hard packed. For this time of year, excellent conditions. Even at the top there is minimal snow.

I tried to hike in to O'Brian Lake on the July long weekend. It was very wet in the meadow around Taylor Lake and unless you feel like trudging through foot deep snow and really testing your route finding skills the trail is impassable. I would think that even with the hot weather predicted it will take at least 3 weeks before this trail can be accessed.

The trail is in excellent shape to the top of the ridge where it separates to head to the peak but from this point on there are lots of patches of snow probably a foot deep that you will have to hike through. You may want to wait for another couple of weeks if you want to do the entire hike.

This trail is in good condition. With the recent snow, at the top there are sections where the snow is up to the top of your calves but I made it around and then back on the Quaite Creek Trail without to much difficulty.

With last weeks snow, conditions are not good. After about a 200 meter elevation gain there is 6-8 cm of snow on the trail and is sections the water is being trapped in the trail and is fairly deep. If you try this trail before the melt you will want both gators and waterproof footwear.

This trail is in great shape. Any fallen trees have been cleared. There are only a couple of wet spots and minimal snow in the last 200 meters of elevation. Great hike for this time of year.

We left Calgary today to hike the Black Prince trail today. To my surprise, winter has not ended above 1800 feet. We should have known I guess but the amount of snow still present was amazing. I am guessing that at least 5 feet of snow are still on the ground making hiking a bit difficult. Breaking through the snow was a common experience today.

This trail is fairly wet, especially in the Marsh areas. With the cattle traffic and trail erosion it is pretty muddy. If you want to hike in this area, I would suggest you hike to Eagle Hill Viewpoint instead.
