Trail to Eastside of Rundle Mountain
Directions to trail head
Hazards on trail
Hike Description
From the parking lot walk approximately 200 meters back down the Smith-Dorrien-Spray Lakes Trail towards Canmore. The trail, visible in the photo below, starts near a power pole on the same side of the road as the parking lot.

The trail climbs into the forest, initially to the right and then quickly turns back towards the parking lot for about 200 meters. The trail then turns again and begins its rapid climb to the tree line. Once above the trees you will enter a mountain meadow. You will want to keep to the right side watching for the cairns along the trail. At waypoint #002 there is a cairn. Looking to the right you will see a small peak depicted below.

Looking to the left and you should see a trail running diagonal across the meadow and then into the scree. At this point you have the choice of continuing to the lookout over Canmore by staying to the right. This involves no scrambling. The other option is to follow the diagonal trail depicted below to the highpoint of east Rundle. This is the more difficult route involving scrambling.

Great, I always wanted to know where the trailhead is.
