Hike Description
Bow Valley Provincial Park contains a series of trails that are suitable for the absolute beginner, families with strollers and those who would experience difficulty with any strenuous activity. Parts of the 'Many Springs' trail are wheelchair accessible. All trails are maintained by the park wardens and are in good shape year around. No special hiking boots are required. There is no significant elevation gain on any of the trails.
The trail head at the park office can be difficult to find. It starts behind the park office. This trail is a 1.9 km loop. various geological features such as drumlins and eskers can be examined while hiking here. Interpretative signs are located along several locations. After walking on an esker, the trail 'descents' into a dense forested area. Many large trees can be observed here. There are two pretty nice viewpoints allowing to see Mount Yamnuska and seeing west into the Bow Valley.
The 'Many Springs' trail head is located about 2 km west following the paved road that goes through the park. This is a 2.4 km loop around a spring fed lake. This trail is known for its abundance in spectacular flowers. This is also an area known for its diversity birds. At waypoint #1, a spectacular view opens toward the north, revealing Mount Yamnuska, Loder peak and Door Jamb Mountain. At various points, the trail is going directly over the lake allowing for close study of life in the water below.
Although noise from the nearby highway is always present, the beauty and diversity found on these short loops makes this a perfect 'low effort' destination.
