Moonraker Trails - Golden B.C.
Just outside Golden is the Moonraker Trail network. For hikers it offers great canyon views. For bikers it has great single track riding. There are two main ways to access the network. You can drive directly to the upper network by driving towards Kicking Horse Resort. Take the turnoff to Cedar Lake Road 6 kilometres from the Columbia River bridge. The lower network can be reached by driving south from Grolden to Nicholson, turn towards Sander Lake and Drive 5.5 kilometres to reach the parking lot at Sander Lake. There is a great campground at Sander Lake. See the attached Trail Map for driving directions.
A word of caution, the trail map is out of date. There are some great new trails, Tomorrow we Ride, Tonight Tequila, Better than Boston that are not on the map. In the lower network, I find it next to impossible to keep my bearings and continually find myself going in circles, which is the main reason I recorded the gps tracks for these trails. I did my best to keep the trail names accurate but there are no guarantees. If you are hiking I recommend a route that involves following Canyon Creek trail for the views of the Canyon. For biking my favourite route is to park at the Cedar Lake parking lot, ride the road to the Cedar Snag trailhead. Take Cedar Snag to the Aarowhead trail, up Cedar Camp trail to the Toilet Bowl and out the North Star Trail.
