Everytrail app for iphone
Posted July 6th, 2010 by ChrisI have been spending a fair bit of time in the Golden area and seem to have misplaced/lost my Garmin gps. I had already biked the Canyon Creek trail which is part of the Moonraker trail system outside Golden. This provided an opportunity and a good reason to test out the Everytrail app for my iphone.
Turns out that the iphone produced the same track as my Garmin and if you want to share your trail and are happy with the quality of the pictures from an iphone you get to produce your track (including waypoints), geotagged photos in no time and with minimal effort. Adding captions and descriptions as you hike is simple.
In any event, here is my track for the day along the Cedar Creek trail, up an unmarked road, down Canyon Creek trail and back on a series of trails including Devil's Slide.

Aiden Bags Prairie Mountain
Posted May 31st, 2009 by ChrisI have not been doing many hikes or posts. Young Aiden at 8 weeks bagged his first peak, Prairie Mountain, while wearing a cotton jumper. I am going to get him some tech gear now. Surprisingly I do not think he found the hike all the difficult.

Johnston Canyon Ice Climbing
Posted January 26th, 2009 by ChrisLast weekend I went out to Johnston Canyon. I was surprised that the river was flowing and the lower falls were not frozen. With the water running behind the ice it made for interesting photos and the thunder of the falls was absent.

The Upper Falls did not disappoint. There were ice climbers (beginners) on the side of the canyon and a couple on the upper falls.

Mellow Moose
Posted July 3rd, 2008 by ChrisI saw this fellow on my way back from Peter Lougheed on the weekend of June 27, 2008. The moose was surrounded by paparazzi. I expect that he had a few hundred pictures taken. Below is one of the many I shot.
