hiking Canmore

Mt Lady McDonald to Helipad

A moderately difficult day hike from the Cougar Creek parking lot in Canmore up to the helipad on Mt Lady McDonald. Part of the trail involves clambering over large rocks and it is quite steep. Thus the descent can be as much work as the ascent. I felt the effects of the descent on my lower muscles for a day after.

A rewarding hike since there are many great views back into Canmore and the Spray Valley beyond in one direction, and Banff and the Bow Valley to the west.

I include the GPS tracks for my ascent and descent. The descent was on a steeper and more direct route that eventually joined the trail taken on the way up.

I used http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/ to create a Google Map to show my route. Photos from the hike are attached to the post on the trail and here are a couple of the group starting out, eating lunch at the helipad, and me at the helipad.

Enjoy.
